CASA - National Adoption Day

A nonprofit organization

National Adoption Day is a collective, grassroots effort to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States. A coalition of national partners — the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, Alliance for Children’s Rights and Children’s Action Network, and the Freddie Mac Foundation  — launched National Adoption Day in 1999.  These organizations can play a crucial role in placing kids, especially considering 20,000 children in foster care will never be adopted. National Adoption Day has currently recognized more than 90,000 children moving from foster care to a permanent family.

Nebraska courts have sponsored celebrations since 1999 by working with attorneys, adoption professionals, child welfare agencies, and advocates to finalize adoptions and encourage permanent, loving homes for children in foster care. Locally, the 10th Judicail District Adoption Day Committee supplies the courts with a backpack filled with community supported gifts to each child on the day the are adopted. The backpacks, which are provided by Jockey, are then filled with gift certificates and items from community businesses that show support to these families and their wonderful decision to adopt an abused or neglected child into their loving family.
