Raices de mi Pueblo

A nonprofit organization

Maria Rubalcava founded the dance troupe in 2018 with just a few dancers. The group quickly grew to 17 dancers from preschool to high school. Maria identifies several goals and observed benefits for the dancers. The dancing provides a safe activity that is healthy and promotes fitness. The dancing and performances build confidence and self esteem for the participants.

The dances from different parts of Mexico promote and build pride in the participants' Mexican and Guatemalan heritage. Maria incorporates history and culture into her classes. They have performed throughout the state with very good responses from communities which builds positive relationships and connections. They have performed for Hastings elementary schools, many community events, festivals, churches and schools across the state. Seeing their children successfully perform also builds positive relationships and pride within families.
